Thu, 24 Apr 2008 09:48:43 PDT
Many of CBS's anchors are trying to move on from their jobs. $15 million per year Katie Couric tops the list of those 'movers'. Things are rotting at CBS, and fast.

10 Keytar Videos That Rock

Thu, 24 Apr 2008 12:23:03 PDT
Some say it’s been played out. But we say you can never play enough of the keytar. Back in the early ’80s, DEVO had the foresight to cast the gloriously dorky guitar-keyboard Frankenstein in their ground-breaking video, Whip It, to great comic effect. And ever since, funny-making people have been lining up to do the same. So, to put this now thoroughly established comic prop in its proper perspective, we’re going to count down our Top 10 Favorite Keytar scenes ever, from Borat to Blades Of Glory

Rotten Timing of Bands and Heart Attacks

Sat, 19 Apr 2008 12:12:04 PDT
Diary time again. Wednesday afternoon, I ended up doing something I had never done before, and the only reason was because the Pope was visiting America. Normally, I would be indifferent to such a thing, and it was exactly my complete indifference that drove me to this point. You see, when I eat lunch in my house, I eat in my living room, usually around 12.30 or 1.00, while I watch television, often the news. It's usually the only television I watch in the course of a day, unless it's Thursday,

FTP blog policy on material submitted by email

Thu, 24 Apr 2008 12:25:29 PDT
One of my all time favorite Utah bloggers, Voice of Utah, has posted this criticism in a post that is a press release from the Sutherland Institute: Do you think press releases should be posted with their exact headlines? Shouldn’t there be some sort of prefatory language in the headline, like “Sutherland says…”? This is a good opportunity to explain why we do that on the FTP blog, which we haven’t done. We get emails that come from listeners and from different parties and organizations.

Cycles in Fashion Trends

Sat, 19 Apr 2008 00:19:32 PDT
Some things travel from one generation to another. They stay with us for a while and then are replaced by the new coil of fashion. Sure thing, they bring the fashion of 2008 with them, but original design and form remain the same. Here are some typical examples.

British Beauty Queen: Size 14 and Proud!

Thu, 24 Apr 2008 12:17:29 PDT
Chloe Marshall, a 17-year-old beauty school student who is 5′10″ and weighs 176 pounds, will be the first size 14 contestant to strut her stuff at the finals of the Miss England pageant. While Marshall clearly stands out amongst the average pin-thin pageant girls and models, she’s proud of her curves. “I love my body. People seem desperate to get me to say that I don’t, that deep down I’m not happy and would rather be thin, but the fact is I wouldn’t change myself at all,” Marshall told the D

Canadian socialist IRONY DU JOUR: CBC calls Zimbabwe’s media “state-run”

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 12:35:21 PDT
Canadian socialist IRONY DU JOUR: CBC calls Zimbabwe’s media “state-run” This morning, the state-run, state-owned CBC Newsworld state-media employed news anchor, Suhana Meharchand, referred to Zimbabwe’s “state-run news media” and how they are accusing the political opposition of treason. Canada’s state-owned, state-run CBC never refers to itself that way! Now. Countdown to liberals and sundry leftist and downright Marxist CBC apologists emailing me those seething reprimands insisting

When the news that Singapore is going to hold the first ever F1 night race came out, hotels around the track had put forth proposals that could charge the customers as high as $1,700 per night. Now, just 5 months away from the Singapore F1 Grand Prix, it is reported that the hotel rates could possibly fall after receiving cold response..

Immaterial: La robe est morte. Vive la Robe!

Thu, 24 Apr 2008 06:54:37 PDT
It feels like just as someone is proclaiming the death of one trend that trend is popping up everywhere. Fashion trend tipping points and mass market bell curves aside, we think proclaiming the death of the dress is a little premature.

egg chair and arne jacobsen updates

Thu, 24 Apr 2008 06:00:41 PDT
Via Freshhome, I see that the iconic Egg Chair has been given a facelift for its 50th anniversary. It’s giving me bad Preppy Handbook flashbacks. What do you think? The Egg Chair says, “On the occasion of the chair’s golden anniversary, Fritz Hansen asked the well-known conteporary artist Tal R to interpret 50 Egg chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen…This series of the Egg visually expresses its 50 years of fame as if every piece of textile represents a period of time with past and present trends
